If you have not heard of the term, I can only assume you have been fortunate enough not to have been ghosted.
Ghosting is the act of ending a relationship or cutting off all communication with someone without any explanation or warning. It typically refers to ending a romantic relationship but can also apply to friendships or other types of relationships. Ghosting can involve suddenly ceasing all forms of communication, including phone calls, text messages, and social media interactions.
The Purpose of Ghosting
Context is everything, and there can be various reasons why someone might choose to ghost their partner. Some people may ghost because they lack the emotional maturity and communication skills to have a difficult conversation or handle a difficult situation.
Also, they may find it easier to avoid dealing with the issue and disappear. Some people may ghost because they fear confrontation or rejection, believing that ghosting will be less painful than directly ending the relationship.
Additionally, some people may ghost because they feel overwhelmed by the emotional intensity of the relationship and may use ghosting to distance themselves emotionally.
People may also ghost because they feel like they have found someone new and don’t want to hurt their current partner.

7 Reasons To Avoid Ghosting
I realise that far too many people need to be made aware of the impact of their actions (or lack of actions). Therefore, here are reasons you should avoid ghosting.
Disrespectful
When someone ghosts another person, they are not showing any consideration or respect for the other person’s feelings. The person who is being ghosted is left confused, wondering what happened, and, in many cases feeling hurt and rejected. The ghosting person’s lack of consideration and respect is disrespectful as it disregards the other person’s emotional well-being.
Emotional Trauma
Being ghosted can be a traumatic and hurtful experience for the person who was ghosted. The sudden disappearance of someone they care about can be emotionally distressing and can cause feelings of abandonment, insecurity, and worthlessness. This can leave the person who was ghosted feeling confused, unsure, and in many cases, rejected. The ghosted person might have difficulty understanding what went wrong and may be left with unresolved feelings and questions that can affect their emotional well-being.
Cowardice
Ghosting is often seen as a form of cowardice because it allows the person who is ghosting to avoid confrontation and difficult conversations. Ghosting prevents them from having difficult and uncomfortable conversations with the person they are ghosting. They don’t have to face any immediate confrontation or the risk of rejection.
Instead of dealing with the problem head-on and communicating openly and honestly, the ghoster avoids the situation altogether. This lack of courage to face difficult or uncomfortable situations is viewed as cowardly, as it shows a lack of willingness to take responsibility for their actions and their impact on the other person.
Immature
Ghosting can be seen as a lack of maturity and emotional intelligence because it is an impulsive and thoughtless way to end a relationship or cut off communication with someone. It requires little to no consideration of the other person’s feelings or emotions. A mature and emotionally intelligent person would take the time to understand the situation and communicate openly and honestly with the other person, even if the conversation is difficult or uncomfortable. They would also be willing to take responsibility for their actions and their impact on the other person.
Abandonment
Ghosting can damage trust and make it difficult for the person who was ghosted to trust others in the future. The person who was ghosted may have difficulty trusting anyone again because the ghosting experience has profoundly impacted their emotions. The sudden disappearance of someone they care about can be emotionally distressing and cause feelings of abandonment, insecurity, and worthlessness.
Being ghosted can lead to feelings of betrayal and make it difficult for the person who was ghosted to trust others in the future. They may become more guarded and less likely to open up and trust others, which can affect their ability to form healthy relationships in the future. This can be especially true when the ghosted person has strong feelings for the ghoster, and the ghosting is unexpected.
Trust is a crucial aspect of any relationship, and it can be hard to regain when that trust is broken. Ghosting can be detrimental to trust and can create a lasting impact on the person who was ghosted, making it difficult for them to trust others in the future.
Emotional Manipulation
Ghosting can be considered a form of emotional manipulation because the person who is ghosting controls the situation and the other person’s emotions. The person who was ghosted may be left with unresolved feelings, questions and no closure. The ghoster has complete control over the situation and the other person’s emotions, leaving the ghosted person feeling confused and powerless.
The person who is ghosting is using their power to control the situation and the other person’s emotions for their own benefit, without regard for the other person’s well-being.
Selfish
Ghosting can be seen as a selfish act because the person who is ghosting is primarily focused on their avoidance of discomfort rather than the well-being of the person they are ghosting. They don’t have to face any immediate confrontation or the risk of rejection.
As mentioned earlier, the lack of courage to face difficult or uncomfortable situations is viewed as selfish, as it shows a lack of willingness to take responsibility for their actions and their impact on the other person.
The ghoster is primarily focused on their own avoidance of discomfort rather than the well-being of the person they are ghosting, which is considered selfish.

My Advice
For those of you who have been unfortunate and have been ghosted and remain to be affected by this experience, I hope the below helps you:
You are strong, you are resilient, and you will move on. You deserve better than to be ghosted. You deserve someone who will be upfront and honest with you, communicate with you, and treat you with respect. The person who ghosted you does not deserve your time or your energy. They have made their choice, and it is not a reflection of your worth as a person.
You may be feeling hurt, confused, and rejected right now, but it is important to remember that you are not alone. You are deserving of love and respect, and the right person is out there waiting for you.
Do not let this experience define you. Do not let it hold you back from living your best life. Take this time to focus on yourself, to heal and to grow. Use this experience to learn more about what you want and need in a relationship and use it as an opportunity to become a stronger, more self-aware person.
The actions of others do not define you. You are in control of your own life, and you have the power to choose your own path. So, choose to move on, heal, and live your best life.
You deserve nothing less.
